T.O.P Has Opened His Eyes
T.O.P’s mother has confirmed that the rapper has regained consciousness. On June 8, after completing her visitation, she revealed that her son’s condition has improved.
“My son’s condition has improved a lot. I had eye contact with my son.”

She did not share much, however, when asked if T.O.P recognized her, she said, “Yes.”
On the morning of June 6, Big Bang’s rapper was rushed to the hospital after being found unconscious. YG Entertainment later acknowledged his overuse of drugs to be the cause.
Following T.O.P’s hospitalization, conflicting news spread across Asian news outlets. Some reported T.O.P overdosed on muscle relaxants however, he had regained consciousness. Later, police announced that the rapper had overdosed on tranquilizers. Afterwards, a police representative claimed that T.O.P had not lost consciousness to begin with, but had merely fallen asleep. The rapper had taken anti-anxiety medicine, which contained sleep inducing ingredients. Then, speaking with Allkpop, another source said that the singer remained unconsciousness and may have suffered brain damage.
On June 7, doctors at Ewha Woman’s University Medical Care held a press conference with the permission of the patient’s mother. One of the doctors termed T.O.P (Choi Seung-hyun’s) condition as “very bad.” The doctor further said that the artist may have ‘overdosed on benzodiazepine.’ Benzodiazepine is a drug used to treat anxiety and insomnia amongst other conditions.
Amidst the chaos of conflicting news reports, T.O.P’s mother slammed the Korean media for releasing false information. She tearfully revealed that her son is not conscious and neither is he doing well.
“My son is still unconscious and to read articles that say he’s “deep in sleep” is hurtful. Please edit and refrain from saying such things. We don’t know how things will turn out. My son is in a critical condition. I see my son dying but I also see reports saying he’s just sleeping. Isn’t that wrongful reporting?”

She went on to disclose heart-rending details about the singer’s condition. T.O.P’s mother announced that he is being assisted by a ventilator to receive oxygen. She had also stated that the rapper is almost close to dying.
“Due to the lack of oxygen, he may have possible brain damage.”

YG Entertainment, too, released a statement later, sharing the same sentiments as her.
“When T.O.P’s mother saw the police quote she was furious. T.O.P is currently wearing an oxygen mask and he is unconscious. Visitation rights are restricted and only close relatives are looking over him.”
– YG Entertainment
Multiple Korean news outlets cited a ‘police source’ which stated that the singer was never unconscious in the first place. He only stayed in the intensive care unit for privacy. The source claimed,
“Reports that he is unconscious are not true, he is in a state of deep sleep due to sleep-inducing substances in his sedatives and the test results on his blood, urine, and CT all came back normal and the family has been notified.”
It further said,
“T.O.P was responsive when pinched and called by his name he wasn’t carried when he was being transported to the hospital but someone was supporting him out.”
Now that T.O.P has opened his eyes, doctors expect that his condition will improve soon.
“Although we cannot guarantee how long it will take [for T.O.P] to recover, on average, a healthy person who does not have any other illnesses takes around a week or two to recover.” – Professors Lee Deok Hee, Kim Yong Jae, and Choi Hee Yeon at Ewha Woman’s University Medical Care
We wish T.O.P a quick and healthy recovery.
